Story
“Wolf Joe” is a Canadian animated series, created in 2019 by Alexander Bar. It puts the spotlight on one of Canada’s indigenous people, the Anishinaabe. To ensure the content was in line with Anishinaabe teachings, the producers relied on Dave Couchene Jr, a Turtle Lodge elder and knowledge keeper. Other First Nations’ storytellers and performers have also contributed greatly to the show.
The series follows the adventures of Joe, a young First Nations boy who is inspired by his grandfather’s stories, but mostly by the universal values of The Seven Teachings Wheel, that speak about the importance of being a good Human Being. Together with his two best friends, Nina and Buddy, they explore indigenous culture, heritage and identity of their community of Turtle Bay. The friends take on and overcome all sorts of daily challenges and they embark on fun-filled adventures.
The series gives young indigenous viewers an insight into their communities and shared history.
