Cloud Bread

Cloud Bread is a South Korean animated series that premiered in 2015, based on the successful book by South Korean author Baek Hee-Na. It is a heartwarming story that follows the lives of the two siblings Hongbi and Hongshi, who live in the countryside with their parents. The story is based on a popular Korean fairy tale about a magical bread that floats in the clouds and brings happiness to those who eat it.

The series begins on a rainy day, when Hongbi and his younger brother Hongshi find a small cloud stuck on a twig in a tree. They decide to take the piece of cloud home with them and show it to their mother. As Hongbi and Hongshi’s mum loves to bake, she bakes the cloud into a bread. When the two children eat the fresh bread a while later, they magically begin to float like clouds!

One of the standout features of Cloud Bread is its beautiful and original animation. The characters of the show and many objects in the backgrounds are two-dimensional paper cut-outs, colored in by pencil, reminiscent of the English Poppy Cat board books. The backgrounds are colorful and detailed CGI animated, creating a vibrant world that is a pleasure to watch.

The themes of the series revolve around strong values such as family, friendship, and perseverance. The children learn the value of hard work and determination. They also learn to appreciate the simple joys of life, like spending time with loved ones and enjoying delicious food.
