Story

On Turtle Island, the MacBernik family is a family of “average pirates”: the context of an average pirate family’s life (ship-ship-sleep) serves as a backdrop for all kinds of funny situations. Victor, the father, is not a very good pirate. He is envious of his neighbor Irvin Lerequin, himself a pirate, who has “made it” in life, and hates his stepmother Mamie la Poudre.

Despite a lot of pettiness and anachronisms, the MacBerniks stick together. The children (Scampi and Bigorneau) go to school to become pirates, while Victor’s wife Lucile is at home. Victor’s crew, Dr. Spratt, the Sardine and Mâchicoulis, often question the authority of their captain, who must use threats to ensure their obedience.

Who are the main characters of Famille Pirate?

Victor MacBernik: a notoriously nervous pirate who never manages to bring home any booty for his family. His ship is called "L'Os à Moelle". Victor is very greedy and more or less stingy. He will always seek a way to enrich himself, which sometimes leads him to commit illegal or less-than-moral acts. Victor claims to have hidden, in his youth, a fabulous booty on a lost island whose location he no longer remembers. Victor is very attached to his family. Apart from his clumsiness, Victor doesn't seem to be very good at spelling, and he can't swim either.
Lucille MacBernik: she is Victor's wife. She's a bit more intelligent than her husband, and she very idealistic.
Scampi MacBernik: the 15-year-old daughter of Victor and Lucille. She is a typical teenager, obsessed with superficial things like beauty and boys.
Bigorneau MacBernik: the 6-year-old son of Victor and Lucille. He looks up to his father and wants to be just like him when he grows up.
Sakamain: the pet crocodile of the MacBernik family. He acts like a dog.
Krill: a chicken, the other pet of the MacBernik family.
Mamie la Poudre: Lucille's mother, Victor's mother-in-law. She strongly dislikes Victor.
Irvin Lerequin: Victor's rival, another pirate who has been very successful.
La Sardine: a dirty pirate who is part of the crew on the MacBernik ship.
