“Kiya & the Kimoja Heroes” is an American animated series that premiered on Disney Junior and Disney+ in March 2023. The series is co-production between Disney Junior and eOne, the entertainment studio of toy giant Hasbro.
Kiya, Jay and Motsie are three energetic children who each have their own hobbies, just like any other child. Kiya loves to dance, but she’s also a big fan of martial arts. Jay loves music and is a talented guitarist. Motsie knows a lot about technology, and she loves sports too. When the three friends put on their headbands adorned with mystical Kimoja crystals, they turn into the Kimoja Heroes: Dance Ninja, Flying Rockstar and Tech Racer! They can perform special moves inspired by their passions.
Kiya shows that you don’t have to choose between learning to dance and being a kick-butt hero, you can be both. The show encourages preschoolers to be whoever they want to be and shine and wants to empower young girls to be leaders who can use their smarts and skills to solve big problems. The main themes of the show are community spirit, empathy and unity.
The antagonists of the show represent the negative character traits of jealousy, competitiveness and envy. When the Flawed Friends make a mess of things, the Kimoja Heroes make things right and restore the harmony in their hometown of Kimoja City.
