Story

The French animated series “Les Grandes Grandes Vacances”, known as “The Long Long Holiday” in the English version, is set during the German occupation of France in World War II. It follows the story of two siblings, Colette and Ernest, who are sent to live with their grandparents in a village near Dieppe in Normandy. The series portrays their experiences and challenges during the wartime, including life under the German occupation, the French Resistance, and the absence of their parents. The ten-episode mini-series provides a child’s perspective on the realities of war and has been well-received for its portrayal of historical events and its impact on children.

Who are the main characters of Les Grandes Grandes Vacances?

Colette and Ernest Bonhoure: a sister and her older brother, who are left with their grandparents while their father is fighting in the army and their mother is convalescing in Switzerland.
