Story

“Maya and the Three” is a Mexican-American computer-animated series created by Jorge R. Gutiérrez, known for his work on “The Book of Life.” The series is a Netflix original and was released in October 2021.

Set in a fantasy Mesoamerican-inspired world, the story follows Maya, a courageous young warrior princess. On the day she is celebrating her fifteenth. This dark force threatens to bring chaos and destruction to her kingdom, and Maya embarks on a perilous journey to find and unite three legendary warriors. These warriors, known as “The Three” possess extraordinary abilities and are believed to be the key to saving the world from impending doom.

Accompanied by a loyal group of friends, including her loyal pet, a flying jaguar named Chiapa, Maya must face dangerous obstacles, encounter magical creatures, and unravel long-lost secrets. Throughout her quest, Maya learns about her own hidden powers and must confront her past in order to fulfill her destiny and protect her people.

Who are the main characters of Maya and the Three?

Maya: the free-spirited daughter of King and Queen Teca, who wants to be a great Eagle Warrior like her mother.
King Teca: he is Maya's father. He's friendly and lovable, but he's a very skilled fighter who will do anything to protect his family.
Queen Teca: she is Maya's mother. She's a skilled diplomat and warrior.
Ah Puch: one of the three gods who act as a guide to Maya and her friends during their adventures.
Acat: she's the powerful warrior Goddess of Tattoos and Lord Mitclan's top assassin. She's been tasked to capture Maya and prepare her for sacrifice.
Chimi: she's a master archer from the Jungle Lands. She has albinism and therefore grew up shunned and feared by her community. She's referred to as El Monstruo Blanco.
Zatz: a god from the Underworld, who always wears black clothes.
Chiapa: a trained war jaguar, Maya's playful pet.
Lady Micte: Maya's real birth mother, the Goddess of Death.
Lord Mictlan: he's the bloodthirsty God of War and leader of all the gods. He's twisted and sadistic and wants to sacrifice Maya to gain ultimate power.
