“Monkie Kid” is an animated series inspired by the classic Chinese story “Journey to the West”. The tale follows a young teenager named MK who discovers the legendary Monkey King’s staff, becoming the chosen one. Together with his loyal friends, Monkie Kid embarks on adventures battling various demons. The series features short episodes, around 10 minutes each, with engaging story arcs and humor. Despite some mild violence and mixed messages in underlying lessons, the show captivates young viewers with high-quality animation and a likeable cast of characters.
In Season 1, fate leads Monkie Kid, a noodle shop delivery boy, to find the Monkey King’s long-lost Golden Staff. The storyline revolves around Monkie Kid harnessing the staff’s magical powers to confront and defeat the Demon.
The series has garnered recognition, being nominated for awards such as “Animated Series Production of the Year” by Screen Producers Australia Awards and in various categories at the Banff Rockie Awards. Director Sarah Harper was also awarded for “Best Direction in Animation” by the Australian Directors’ Guild.
