Which child doesn’t dream of having a pet? For 9-year-old Ned Flemkin, it’s a dream come true when he finally has enough money to buy one. Unfortunately, the only pet Ned can afford is a newt. Excited at first, Ned quickly grows tired of Newton, who does little more than lie on the rock in his bowl. The pet store owner has a solution for this problem: Ned needs to feed him a little bit of Zippo pet food in order to make him more active. A little, not too much! But Newton somehow gets several mouthfuls and grows 6 feet tall. All of a sudden he can also talk and shapeshift! He often gets Ned into trouble being so large, but when it’s time to face Ned’s parents, he shrinks again, leaving Ned to face disaster alone…
Who are the main characters of Ned's Newt?
Ned: The show's main protagonist. A boy who just wants a pet, but gets more than he bargained for when he accidentally feeds his newt too much pet food and it turns into a shapeshifting 6-foot-tall talking newt.
Newton: Ned's newt. He was initially just a regular newt, but after eating too much pet food, he gained the ability to talk and shapeshift. He often gets Ned into trouble, but they remain best friends.
Linda Bliss: Ned's neighbor and love interest. She is a bit of a snob, but Ned is always trying to impress her.
Rusty McCabe: Ned's rival for Linda's affections. He is even more of a snob than Linda and is always trying to one-up Ned.
Sally: Ned's best friend. She is the voice of reason and often has to talk Ned out of his various schemes.
Mr. Blik: The owner of the pet store where Ned bought Newton. He is often annoyed by Ned's antics, but still tries to help him out.
Mrs. McMillan: Ned's teacher. She is always annoyed by Ned's antics, but still tries to help him out.
Grandpa: Ned's grandfather. He is always telling stories of his adventures, much to Ned's amusement.
Mrs. Bliss: Linda's mother. She is always trying to set Ned up with Linda, much to his embarrassment.
