Story

The animated short series “Oh Noah!” was launched as a tool for parents to help their children learn a second language. The series is aimed at children aged 4 to 7 and provides engaging ways to learn Spanish together with a charming and funny role model.

The series follows the comic misadventures of Noah, a young boy staying with his grandmother in a Spanish community where most people do not speak English. As he tries to learn Spanish and makes new friends, he frequently finds himself in misunderstandings that lead to wacky predicaments and will say “How did I ever get into this mess??”. Nevertheless, he always manages to rebound and learn from his mistakes in a cheerful way. “Oh Noah!” has attracted a strong and growing online audience since its launch in 2011 and introduced new Latino lead characters to children’s media. The Emmy Award-nominated series is produced by THIRTEEN for WNET, New York’s flagship public media provider, and funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

There are multiple benefits in learning a second language in early childhood. It improves a child’s understanding of its native language, it has a positive effect on intellectual development, enriches and enhances a child’s mental growth, promotes flexibility in thinking, brings greater sensitivity to language and creates a better ear for listening.

The short series “Oh Noah!” is also available through smartphones and tablets, with an immersive language-learning game.
