Story

The animated series “The Pirates Next Door” is based on the book of the same name by Jonny Duddle, who was the winner of the 2012 Waterstones Children’s Book Prize in the United Kingdom. The story revolves around a family of pirates, the Jolley-Rogers, who move to a town called Dull-on-Sea. The arrival of the pirates causes quite a stir among the townspeople, with the exception of a girl named Matilda, who befriends them. Best friends and comrades, Matilda and Jim Lad, the Jolley-Rogers’ son, get into all sorts of trouble, shattering the calm of their tiny town, blowing the conventions of its stiff residents and turning every day into a new adventure. Who are the main characters of The Pirates Next Door?

Jim Jolley-Rogers: he's a 10-year-old pirate who's spent his life roaming the oceans with his family. He's very brave and good-natured. But he is very proud and he acts before thinking. He becomes Mathilda's new neighbour.
Mathilda: she loves everything related to pirates and immediately finds a friend in Jim. Together, they have loads of adventures.
Nugget: she is Jim's little sister. She is very small, but she has a feisty temperament and a great sense of humor.
Brent: he is the son of the owner of the sailing centre. He has always been the champion at sailing and other sports, and doesn't like to be challenged by Jim. That's why he tries to make life impossible for Jim and his friends.
Alexia: she is the daughter of the lighthouse keeper and a friend of Mathilda and Jim. She's always distracted and loves astronomy.
Max: he's very smart and inventive. To protect himself from Brent and his gang, he has learned to turn everyday objects into weapons of defence.
Grandpa: a true pirate, who stays locked in his ship, even though he's on land!
Mrs Bevan: the president of the bingo club. She very much dislikes the Jolley-Rogers and would like them to leave the town.
Bones: he is Jim's dog, who follows him everywhere. He's got a wooden leg.
The Jolley-Rogers: Jim and Nugget's parents. They are down to earth, welcoming, curious and open-minded.
