Film Roman

Film Roman was founded in 1984 by Phil Roman. Phil Roman was a former Disney animator who had worked on classic Disney films like “Sleeping Beauty” and “One Hundred and One Dalmatians” before co-founding Filmation Associates. The company initially started as a commercial animation studio, producing animated commercials and short segments for various television programs. It then expanded its focus into television animation during the late 1980s and early 1990s. The studio gained recognition for its work on animated series like “Garfield and Friends” (based on the popular comic strip “Garfield”), which aired from 1988 to 1994. Film Roman is perhaps best known for its long-running association with the animated television series “The Simpsons.” In 1992, Film Roman took over production of “The Simpsons” from Klasky-Csupo, and they continued to produce the show for over two decades. Over the years, Film Roman underwent several ownership changes. In 1994, the studio was acquired by the German media company, Bavaria Film. Later, in 2001, it became a subsidiary of Starz, LLC, which was then acquired by Lionsgate in 2016.
