Story
It’s summer in Muddlemere, a tranquil little town right on Muddle Lake. Wild animals have made themselves at home here, not in direct contact with humans, but close enough to enjoy the comforts of civilisation. When they are caught seeking food and shelter in rubbish bins, gardens and garages, Wendy the vixen, Grumpf the boar, Kevin the marten and many others regularly come into conflict with the residents of Muddlemere and their pets. And right in the middle of the gang is Törtle, an exotic creature. As a tortoise who grew up in a pet shop, he is neither a pet nor a wild animal. Because he has plenty of time to observe people and animals very closely, he understands their behaviour and finds solutions to their conflicts that you wouldn’t expect from a slow creature like Törtle. In every episode Törtle gets caught up in the culture clash between humans and animals, but always emerges as the unexpected hero.
Who are the main characters of Törtle?
Törtle the Tortoise: after being born and raised in a pet shop, he unexpectedly finds himself in the wild, which is an absolute shock to him. Luckily, he is quickly accepted by the other animals of Muddlemere. Törtle is slow, cautious and reserved. He is a good listener and is the voice of reason in the show. When he's afraid, he starts to count to calm himself.
Wendy the Vixen: she is Törtle's best friend and is always there to keep him out of danger. She lives with the tortoise in an abandoned garden shed.
Hocus Pocus the Swan: a vain swan who appointed himself chairman of the weekly wildlife meeting in Muddlemere.
Grumpf and Brunella the Wild Boars: they are the proud parents of five little freshlings. They often get into conflict with humans when searching for food, especially with Herman Luttkewitz.
Maisy the House Cat: she is proud and snooty, and takes part in the wildlife meetings even though she is domesticated. Her mistress Alina is often away, leaving Maisy to do whatever she pleases.
Abby, Baily and Cally the Raccoons: a trio of clever, adventurous and daring raccoon sisters. They cause a lot of damage to the human properties and give the wild animals a bad reputation.
Kevin the Marten: he loves the inside of cars and their engine compartments, where he likes biting cables. He's a very nervous animal.
Ivo the Fox: a very fat, spoiled and lazy fox.
Baldwin the Badger: a grumpy animal who spends most of his time alone, except when there's something to find in garbage bins.
Anton the Labrador: the pet dog of the Budak family. He represents the interests of all house dogs at the wildlife meetings.
The Budak Family: a local family, owners of Anton. The two children Josephine and Paul like Törtle.
Herman Luttkewitz: a neat freak who strongly dislikes wild animals, especially the wild boars who tend to trash his garden.
